Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of characters who will split off from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
This warrior group features Teor (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.
This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might look mismatched, but the actions of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose death started the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.
Casimir then paid off his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, wants vengeance.
- Kattigan is familiar with the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
- The strong character and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the powerful family could help the party enter places they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The fighter swore a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The warrior and Wicander turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the family.
This means them little choice but to travel to the remote area in search of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Seekers and Schemers groups.
Audiences can expect discovering which players will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
